Dell's new basic desktop computer system, the Dimension 8110, is powered by the Intel Celeron D 325 desktop processor. This isn't a terribly fast processor when compare to what is offered now on many budget desktops, but it is more than sufficient for productivity software and internet applications that the system is designed for. It is matched up with 512MB of PC3200 DDR memory that is roughly standard for a budget system.
Storage is quite good for the Dimension 8110. The system comes with a 160GB hard drive that should provide more than enough storage for a basic productivity desktop system. It also comes with a 16x DVD+/-RW dual layer burner for creating music, movie or data CDs and DVDs. Unlike other Dimension systems though, it lacks a media card reader for interfacing with digital peripheral memory cards.
Don't expect much in terms of graphics from the Dimension 8110. It uses the Intel Extreme 2 integrated graphics that uses 64MB of system memory. 3D performance is such that it cannot even play the most basic of PC games. The system also lacks an AGP or PCI Express graphics card slot for upgrading the video. On the plus side, the system does come standard with a 17" monitor.
In order to keep the costs down on the system, Dell has decided to only include the Word Perfect 12 word processing program. Still, for those on a tight budget that need a complete computer system, the Dimension 8110 does provide a decent productivity PC.
